Before I go on to showing you the Auburn Diner piece as it is carved, I wanted to post two pictures of the back of the piece. This is rough cut wood. You can see the grain of the wood as well as some saw marks. As you can see, rough cut is an accurate descriptor. This is why I plane or smooth the front of the boards, so that I can transfer my drawing and its many details onto the front face of the piece.
