Green Painting Techniques - Palette Paint Wastage

Even if I try to be conscientious and use every last bit of paint on my palette, thin dried layer after layer adds up until there is a substantial loss of paint. In this case, the dried paint is stable, and does not pollute the environment as it would by throwing brush rinse water down the sink. But any waste of material seems unecological and I try to minimize it.

Below a picture of my palette containing six months of acrylic paint wastage.

Here I hold acrylic paint that has been peeled off the palette, in weight I would estimate it to be equivalent to a 3 or 6 oz tube of paint.

Great comment Tricia. This works for acrylics? or are you talking oil paints!

Hi Mary, I do not like to waste paint either. So I spray a little water on my palette and cover well with cling wrap and then put it in the refrigerator. It will last for a week. No more waste.
