"Dancing Cow and Frolicking Farmer" - SOLD

This carved and painted piece - "Dancing Cow and Frolicking Farmer" - sold last weekend. A thank you to David and Denise in Allentown, Pa! I know not everyone can buy, but a purchase is the ultimate in applause for an artist. On a purely practical level, it pays the bills and buys me more time in my studio.

My latest Adam and Eve piece!

 

 

Adam and Eve, Adam Tormented, Number 13

Winter is my indoor season. Picture me surrounded in my chaotic studio with pieces carved over the summer and waiting to be painted for the 2015 summer market.

I just finished painting Adam and Eve #13 (below, $495.00. 12" x 11.5" x 3"), but it was carved in July. In this version I originally had the snake, Eve and Adam stand out equally. Then I repainted the piece a number of times until Adam stood out just a little bit more than the other figures. He's leaning back, thinking, considering, surrounded, a little bit tormented.

Below find some earlier pieces in my Adam and Eve series. Each one is different, but I suppose they are all humorous comments on the interpersonal dynamics of Adam, Eve and the snake. More generally what unites them is that they are all studies of decision making.  I would be very interested in getting your comments on which one is your favorite and what in particular led you to like it the best.

Two Roosters Carved and Side by Side

 

Each Saturdays I continue to carve at my outdoor summer studio (Booth #3 at the Ithaca Farmers' Market). As I finish pieces I put them onto my "to be painted" pile in my indoor downtown Ithaca studio i. Below two roosters that are now mostly complete. Speak up if you want me to put your name on one of them for when it has been painted!

Left Rooster is carved minus its standing base. Right rooster is still to be worked on.

 

Above, the roosters are both carved, except the right one needs its feathers. I hope to finish up this detail tomorrow at the Ithaca Farmers Market.

New Liberty Figures

Liberty with Dove (below) has her first coat of paint.


Liberty Figure Pointing to the Stars (below) still needs the carving cleaned up. Tomorrow at the Ithaca Farmers Market I'll be carving and attaching her base.

Saturday, May 17 at the Ithaca Farmers Market.

I'm close to finished with all the details I can do outside in my studio on the Kayaking in the Adirondacks piece. I worked on that piece today at the Ithaca Farmers' Market.

 

 Also I prepared to attach a base onto a small sailing icon piece, a very quick task.

 

Next on the docket, I started to work on one of two Rooster pieces, the one on the left.

Woman Lies Down with Dogs, #38 - First layer of paint

First coat of paint on Woman Lies Down with Dogs, #38 is a sort of tan/orange. Where it is shaded darker, I probably added a little bit of blue to the tan/orange mix.

Woman Lies Down with Dogs, #38 - carved details

Here Woman lies Down with Dogs, #38 rests on my workbench at the Ithaca Farmers Market. Carved in the summer of 2013, I painted her this winter. If you are in Ithaca, you can see this piece finished - at a show of my work at Found in Ithaca, running from March 5 to 30th.

Woman Lies Down with Dogs, #38 - sketch

This sketch of a piece I call Woman Lies Down with Dogs #38 holds promise to be a good one, one in a series of women with their guard dogs. There are the big shapes of the three trees, with the dogs and the woman forming another shape that anchors the trees to the ground.

Adam and Eve 12, Sold before it was completed

This year was a pretty good year at the Ithaca Farmers Market. I'm done for the year, won't start up again until April 2014. I've been working all year to keep ahead of the sales, and as a result sold three pieces last summer in advance of their completion - a small Adam and Eve (shown below), a large farm piece and a middle sized farm piece

Adam and Eve 12 was carved in summer 2013, but I did not paint it until late fall 2013. It's now been sent on to its new "digs" in Florida. It went to someone on my mailing list who was moving away from Ithaca, and who wanted to take a little piece of it along with them on their life travels.
